Positions/Plate III
At Your Service
Also called: Service, Ready to serve, Waitress, hands clasped in front
Standing, feet together, hands joined in front of you, eyes lowered: ready to be of service.
How to take it
Stand with your feet together, knees soft. Let your arms come down in front of you and join your hands at the level of your lower belly, one palm resting on the back of the other hand. Your elbows stay relaxed against your body, shoulders low. Lower your gaze to the floor; your head barely follows.
What it says
The position of someone who serves (see Glossary): present, discreet, hands ready. It is taken close to the other person, beside their armchair or a step behind, waiting to be asked for a drink, a coat, an object.
Variants
- Waitress: elbows against your sides, forearms held out horizontally, palms up, as if carrying a tray.
- Feet hip-width apart, more stable for holding it longer.
- Seated on the edge of a chair, hands joined on your knees, eyes lowered.
