Stool

Also called: Footstool, footrest

Kneeling, upper body folded, back flat and horizontal, forearms on the floor: a back that serves as a footrest.

How to take it

Kneel on a cushion, then lean your upper body forward and place your forearms on the floor in front of you, elbows under your shoulders. Let your pelvis move back and down until your back is flat and horizontal, at the height of a low stool. Your head stays in line, eyes on the floor between your forearms. The other person, seated close by, can then rest their feet on your back.

What it says

An object position: you become a piece of furniture, useful and silent. What it says depends on the framework: quiet service for some, role-played humiliation for others, to be negotiated as such.

Variants

  • On your hands rather than your forearms, like a coffee table (see /positions/table/).
  • A thick cushion under your belly and chest, to ease your back when the position goes on.
  • With nothing on your back: the position alone, as a low waiting position.
